چکیده

We analyse the chaotic motion of a periodically driven damped pendulum. Time series of the angular velocity are sampled and investigated numerically. Parameters of the driving force and the damping are reconstructed from the velocity by numerically adapting the equation of motion. The delay time required to embed the attractor in a space of delay coordinates is derived from an extension of the recently suggested wavering product. Dynamical and statical properties of the attractor are determined and predictions of chaotic motions are made by a local method. An estimation of the prediction error is inverted to obtain attractor dimension and-entropy. The results are consistent with those from QR decomposition of the Jacobian of the pendulum equation.

Vibrations of a Pendulum with Oscillating Support and Extra Torque

The motion of a driven planar pendulum with vertically periodically oscillating point of suspension and under the action of an additional constant torque is investigated. We study the influence of the torque strength on the transition to chaotic motions of the pendulum using Melnikov's analysis.

Chaotic Behavior in Differential Equations Driven by a Brownian Motion

In this paper, we investigate the chaotic behavior of ordinary differential equations with a homoclinic orbit to a dissipative saddle point under an unbounded random forcing driven by a Brownian motion. We prove that, for almost all sample pathes of the Brownian motion in the classical Wiener space, the forced equation admits a topological horseshoe of infinitely many branches. This result is t...

Complicated Regular and Chaotic Motions of the Parametrically Excited Pendulum

Several new types of regular and chaotic behavior of the parametrically driven pendulum are discovered with the help of computer simulations. A simple physical explanation is suggested to the phenomenon of subharmonic resonances. The boundaries of these resonances in the parameter space and the spectral composition of corresponding stationary oscillations are determined theoretically and verifi...

Stability and chaotic behavior of a PID controlled inverted pendulum subjected to harmonic base excitations by using the normal form theory

In this paper we investigate the stability and the onset of chaotic oscillations around the pointing-up position for a simple inverted pendulum that is driven by a control torque and is harmonically excited in the vertical and horizontal directions. The driven control torque is defined as a proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) control of the deviation angle with respect to the point...

Chaotic Pendulum

The harmonic oscillator is a paradigm of predictability. The resonance response of a harmonic oscillator can be exploited to make clocks accurate to 1 part in 10. Harmonic oscillations are normally observed in systems operating near equilibrium and governed by linear or “Hooke’s law” restoring forces. Nonetheless, for small enough excursions from equilibrium, systems governed by nonlinear resto...
